The International Trade Committee will vote on the reports and recommendations for consent on the EU-Singapore Free Trade Agreement and the Investment Protection Agreement, on 23.01.19. The Free Trade agreement eliminates virtually all Singaporean tariffs on EU imports and EU tariffs on imports from Singapore over 5 years. The Investment Protection Agreement commits to establish a multilateral investment tribunal and appellate mechanism for the resolution of international disputes.
The Committee on Environment, Public Health and Food Safety will vote on its report regarding the proposed legislation establishing minimum requirements for water reuse, on 22.01.19. The proposal seeks to incentivise the reuse of treated waste water, whilst ensuring a high level of protection of health and environment. Amendments tabled introduce definitions and obligations, and ensure that competent authorities can grant permits and control compliance.
The Committee on Internal Market and Consumer Protection will vote its report on the legislative proposal on better enforcement and modernisation of EU consumer protection rules, on 22.01.19. Amendments proposed include the introduction of a blacklist of unfair commercial practice relating to dual quality of products, clarifications on doorstop-selling, rules on more effective and deterrent penalties to tackle breaches of consumer laws, and new rules on transparency of online marketplaces.
The Committee on Regional Development will vote on the report regarding the proposed Common Provisions Regulation for the period 2021-2027, on 22.01.19. It will also vote on its opinion on the Commission's implementation of the EU budget as part of the discharge procedure for 2017. A debate with Regional Policy Commissioner, Corina Crețu, will be held on the same day.
The Legal Affairs Committee will vote on the inter-institutional agreements on insolvency and on copyright applicable to certain online transmissions, on 23.01.19. It will also vote on the opinions on the Instrument for Pre-accession Assistance (IPA III) and on parliamentary scrutiny over decentralised agencies. The provisional inter-institutional agreement on the European Criminal Records Information System (ECRIS and ECRIS-TCN systems) will be voted on the same day.
